Seb was living in QLD working as a barber when he was struck down with Meningococcal Disease W strain on 5/1/2017. Having been vaccinated against the B strain Seb was not aware that there are 5 different strains of Meningococcal in Australia and that you can be vaccinated against them all. Seb is now a multiple amputee resulting in being left with only two functioning fingers, loss of his right leg and left foot requiring prosthetics needing to learn to walk and use his hands again. Having spent 128 days in hospital (9days on life support) Seb fought hard for his life enduring complete organ failure requiring kidney dialysis for 3 months but thankfully his kidneys have recovered. Other effects for Seb are internal organ damage, a lung infection, breathing problems, skin and tissue damage, nerve pain, muscle soreness & hearing loss.
Seb’s interests include motorbike riding, rugby league, touch football, tag football, gym , beach time. Still undergoing operations to improve his hands and intense rehabilitation with his prosthetics team, Seb is working towards gaining back his independence when walking.
Seb’s message to others is “don’t think that it will never happen to you, I was strong, fit and healthy. Be smart and get vaccinated”.
