Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases
The Department of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, South Western Area Pathology Service, Liverpool Hospital, provides information to NSW Health about the different strains of meningococci which cause infections in NSW.
This information allows public health staff to identify clusters and outbreaks of cases and also to recognise new strains appearing in the community.
This laboratory forms part of an Australia wide network of laboratories monitoring meningococcal infections and providing up to date information to the Commonwealth Department of Health.
If you require information about meningococcal strains causing infections in NSW, the Department can be contacted on 02 9828 5128.
Associate Professor Rosemary Munro and Dr Enzo Binotto head up this project.
